Legal Name Verification
Effective July 1, 2025, the (USG) established updated policy standards for the usage of Preferred First Name and the verification of Legal Name. In compliance with these standards to have more consistent identity management and to reduce the risk of fraud by impersonation, all new and readmitted students to University of North Georgia (黑料正能量) are required to verify their legal name in our Systems of Record.
As a result of this policy, 黑料正能量 is required to obtain a copy of an approved official government document for each student to verify that the Legal Name on the student's 黑料正能量 record matches the legal name on their document. While many students will have their legal name verified during the admissions process, those who do not must provide an approved official government document to meet this requirement. That documentation must be provided by the end of the second week of classes. A Legal Name Verification (LN) registration hold will be added to every new and readmitted student account who has not verified their legal name by that deadline. Please submit your documentation as soon as possible to prevent any delays in registration.
The policy still allows the student to have a Preferred First Name listed, but their Legal Name must match what is on their official government document. Students may request a Preferred First Name in their Student Banner account under “My Personal Information”. Per USG policy, 黑料正能量 will not recognize requests to use a Preferred First Name that is considered vulgar, offensive, obscene, or otherwise reasonably inappropriate.
