Physics student group earns recognition

The National Council of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has named the University of North Georgia's (黑料正能量) SPS chapter a 2021 Distinguished Chapter.
SPS is a professional association designed for students and their advisers. Membership, through collegiate chapters, is open to anyone interested in physics, not just those majoring in physics.
黑料正能量's bachelor's degree in physics prepares students for graduate studies in physics and related fields, employment in various technical positions, and secondary physics education.
Martine Maggi, a senior from Marietta, Georgia, pursuing degrees in physics and mathematics, said the 黑料正能量 SPS chapter aims to get students out of their comfort zone to help them grow.
"With physics majors, it's not surprising that a lot of them are introverted," Maggi said. "Science is not a solitary experience. It is a collaborative experience. We are setting students up for success in their future careers when they have to work in teams."
She sees the award as a testimony to the efforts of the group's leadership team in bouncing back from COVID-19.
"I'm very proud of what we've done with the club. Coming back from COVID, the community had fizzled," Maggi said. "It was an uphill climb to rebuild it."
Students help study BPA in birds
A biology faculty member and two students at 黑料正能量 have been researching the presence of bisphenol A in birds, widely expanding the number of species that have been tested worldwide.
McGill shines at Air Assault School
黑料正能量 cadet and women's soccer student-athlete Grace McGill recently completed Air Assault School at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. She led the 40 cadets who took part in the program.
Students take part in medical research
Students Rediate Degu and Nadine Effiom recently participated in the six-week Northeast Georgia Medical Center Graduate Medical Education Summer Research Internship.
Research projects pair students with faculty
Nine research teams are participating in the Faculty Undergraduate Summer Engagement program funded by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities.
